The word freedom has a different meaning to each of us. To many it means the ability to come and go as one pleases. To others it could mean a break away from convention and living truly hedonistically pursuing all the pleasures that life has to offer, while some think having financial freedom should be a life goal. However we choose to define freedom, it is something we all strive towards, breaking free from bondages real and perceived and living a life that fulfils all needs and satisfies all desires.

In a Post Mandela South Africa we celebrate Freedom Day as the day all citizens regardless of colour, creed and background were given the ultimate liberty-Freedom Of Choice. For the first time on the 27th April 1994 we came together and voted! Our voices no matter how loud or soft echoed. People rallied to the polls, young old, fit, frail –this was a day that no one will forget. Queues of people wanting to make their mark snaked around polling stations. The battle had finally come to a climax and change was afoot. History was being made! Democracy had finally made its appearance.

Apartheid had robbed the nation of its dignity and instilled a fear in each one of us. People were laid bare and stripped of their basic human rights. What it also did was unite people against a common evil and this unity gave South Africa the strength to fight back and demand freedom…as with any struggle there were casualties but their sacrifices were not in vain. The 27th April 1994 heralded a new era for our beautiful country …

Today we live in one of the most democratic countries in the world. Same sex marriages are allowed, we have a judicial system that is just, freedom of press allows the newspapers to tell us exactly what is happening. As with any system there are flaws and complaints but the dark veil hanging over the country has lifted and there is transparency. Hard to believe that our democracy is only 22 years old.

Another shift is taking place, one that was sudden and grew exponentially. It is in every aspect of our existence and allows us more freedom, more choice and more truth. This phenomenon that took the world by storm and continues to evolve and change every single day is known as the Internet. It is hard to fathom a world in which the World Wide Web doesn’t exist. We have so many choices because of the Internet, and the ultimate declaration of freedom is the ability to CHOOSE.

We can now voice our opinions on a worldwide scale, we can shop from our bedrooms, and we can communicate with people from all corners of the world.

At MDigital we are embracing this Freedom by taking full advantage of the Internet. We can be your voice and transmit your message to the world. We bring the masses to you via interacting with clients and introducing your products and services to a global audience. We give you the freedom to do what you love while taking care of your marketing needs.

This Freedom Day let us embrace democracy, change and choice…

Madiba famously said, ”For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” So let us adhere to his words…cast off the chains and enhance not only our own lives but the lives off all around us!!!
